Happy skiers fill the Basebox deck after a bluebird day of skiing.

The Basebox is the focal point of Mad River, and even though our skiers love the rustic and unpretentious structure, the building is showing its age and needs some simple and cost-effective upgrades. The Community Preservation initiative will expand the overcrowded bathrooms, which date to the original 1949 building and are inadequate for today’s needs. Renovations will address necessary structural work, such as repair of the foundation. Outdated mechanical systems will be updated to conform to today’s code requirements, resulting in improved energy savings and operational effectiveness. These upgrades will ensure that the Basebox will remain viable for many years to come while retaining its classic atmosphere.

The leadership of the Mad River Glen Cooperative has determined that the needs for the Community Preservation Initiative are $1,400,000. Basebox renovations are currently scheduled for 2020-21.
